Andrews, Charles Freer [Deenabandhu]

F. 1871 D. 1940
Engelsk præst, underviser og missionær. C. F. Andrews kommer i 1904 til Indien som lærer ved forskellige universiteter. Fra 1913 lærer ved Rabindranath Tagores skole. Aktiv i den indiske frihedsbevægelse. I 1913-14 er Andrews i Sydafrika som rådgiver i forbindelse med Gandhi-Smuts-overenskomsten. Andrews rejser til Fiji-øerne to gange i forbindelse med afskaffelse af indiske gæstearbejderes fæstearbejde.
Hjalp Ester Færing med at forblive i Indien i 1919.
Andrew underskriver Manifest mod Værnepligten og Ungdommens militaristiske Opdragelse 1926.
Deltager i Rundbordskonferencen 1930 i London om Indiens fremtid. Taler i Danmarks Radio i 1934 om kæmpejordskælvet i Indien og Nepal. Støttede Gandhis kandidatur for Nobels Fredspris 1937. Omfattende formidling af Gandhis tanker og ideer.
